the trees are really lazy in spring here in reykjavík. not a single leave yet:

so! i'm back. two weeks in one. the first reason is because i didn't have many pictures for last week, the second reason should be the important one: i have to write my master paper and i don't have anything yet, so i shouldn't be posting in livejournal, basically. but anyway. welcome to 'the houses i'd like to live in' volume 3 (or 4). house number 1:

this last house is just next to this new café called 'kaffismidjan'. we went there this week and it's so so very nice and cozy. you can be the dj too, we played some smiths vinyl. at this right moment kate bush was singing around:

we also went to kaffibarinn to see mikael lind play. yes, he has a seagull coming through his ear:

pétur was really excited that day, running around like crazy, probably because of some sugar overload. happy him:

and today we've been in gusti and sara's new home. they moved somewhere outside reykjavík and we've had lunch there. we were the proud parents of two delicious omelettes (one with potatoes and the other one with tuna):

this new house of them is seriously really cool. they have their own hot water river:

they hid 27 easter eggs and we were looking for them in their very own forest:

sudden decorations in front of my house:

so back in january i decided to go to spain in march to get some sun. first stop, barcelona. mission completed:

i stayed there with my dearest isa and we shared some fascinating stories and we laughed and we listened to the horriblest 90s music and we worked a lot:

i also met sara daeh. i've known her for quite a long time in the internet subsubworld and now i can only say that i'll always always ALWAYS regret the fact that we were neighbours for one year and that we never managed to meet before:

we made a delicious juicy juice and played the harp:

and we went together to duduá because there was some opening with the works of olimpia zagnoli:

after the barcelona mini trip i went to my hometown to spend there the whole month. i haven't taken many pictures (lazy laziness), so there's a million of things i've done that don't have any photographic proof. but anyway, here are some. the day i came it started raining for one week. sun chasing mission failed:

but after that week we had almost 30º, the perfect temperature to give birth and swing at the same time:

after giving birth that day weird things started happening:

and more weird things, i suddenly had the skills to play the organ. we had some little concert with 2, 3 or 4 people playing at the same time. this is me and my uncle:

i've been also going to see a b-movie every monday to some bar in my town. some years ago i used to go every single monday, i miss it so much. what is existence?:

and another thing i miss really much is the street i used to live in until i was 14. there were no cars and basically i used to spend the whole day out with all my little neighbours. i still have dreams of my old house, many many times. i went there again with my parents:

i've been also to málaga (costa del sol, or 'sun coast' :D) because of the exhibition 'tira la sal'* that i was taking part of. the day before i met tamara ciervo. again it was really really great meeting her, it's been sometime now since we know each other on the internet and we live too near. i hope it's not the last time! i didn't take any pictures of her though ): before the exhibition i spoke for the tv hoohoo! the girl next to me is sofia, also some internet friend. i had lots of fun with her:

and i also finally met jennifer cox (http://www.neurasthenic.net), we've known each other since 2002 or 2003 (again on the internet). these are her pictures and objects for the exhibition, i really like them. really, dear internet people, let's all meet more often!:

so yes, now it's been a very nice month. lots of birthday parties, good food, going out, trips to sevilla, meeting family, meeting friends, meeting internet friends and sun sun sun. now i'm back in iceland with my man and a bunch of wii games to play and a master's paper to write aaarg! so expect some reykajvík randomness coming soon! it's nice to be back (:

Tira la sal (drop salt) is a collective project based on the expression of intimacy, materialyzed in an exhibition gathering 12 international young photographers under a Leitmotiv: luck, chance.

Jackson Eaton (Australia), Hasisi Park (South Korea), Tania Leshkina (Russia / UK), Chiara Balza (Italy), Jennifer Cox (UK), Miranda Lehman (USA) and the spaniards Antonio Rodríguez, Elo Vázquez, Florencia Rojas, Sofía Siesta, Violeta Niebla and Virginia del Río will compose a photographic and fetishist space.

Each photograph contains a magically-touched-object, motif or symbol, which is exhibited beside the picture into a glass cabinet. At the other side hangs a manuscript revealing the reasons why and how this amulet interacts with fortune and fate.

Tira la sal starts from an idea of the curators Violeta Niebla and Virginia del Río and is taking place at Central Gallery (Galería Central), coordinated by the professor and art solicitor Tecla Lumbreras and Pablo Rodríguez. The gallery is located in the Faculty of Communication of Málaga University (Spain).

The opening will be the 12th march, a friday 13th's eve at 20:00 hours, and it'll be preceed by a round table about photography and luck, chaired by philosophy and art phd students.

yes, it's hard living in iceland. but it's too beautiful too:

on monday we decided to go to the blue lagoon because they were shooting there an episode of britain's next top model. i like seeing the programme yes, so of course we had to go. it's been sometime since we don't drive around iceland and its beauty is just breathtaking:

the pictures aren't half as beautiful as it really is. all this nothingness made of lava and snow it's too surreal somehow. here's some house next to the sea (which in some parts was light blue for some weird reason. i couldn't get that in the photo, though):

and this is the famous blue lagoon. we didn't actually go inside (because it was way too cold), but when we do it's really relaxing and eerie:

and about the britain next top model girls, yes, we saw some of them walking around wearing some crazy make up. it was a bit dissapointing though that the season they're showing in iceland is a bit older, so we didn't know any of them. here we have one buying a coffee:

after the nature overload we went to the theatre. óttar got invited by a radio programme to see some dance, so we went for free. i liked it a lot. before it started:

and we went to two openings too. one with illustrations by some icelandic guy called alfred flóki. i didn't take pictures of his exhibition but in the same museum i took this instead. it was called 'hola' (that in icelandic means 'hole'):

the other one was the opening of an exhibition of óttar's friend sara riel. these are some typical icelandic dishes made of ceramics:

after the opening we went to have dinner. óttar was wearing a tshirt i gave him for his birthday designed by the greatest ginette missghost. and a beard too:

and after that we went to the birthday party of lóa and árni from fm belfast. here we have borko killing siggi that at the same time was making some puzzle:

and then we went to the karaoke bar again. tómas lemarquis (the main actor in
nói albínói: extremely recomended movie if you haven't seen it) was there. he's always wearing this crazy outfit. it's a really funny when i see him around, because that film is extremely sad and it takes place in a really really small and isolated village in iceland. when i see him i still think that he's nói somehow, and that he finally decided to move to reykjavík and dance around:

the sun has come to stay, and also the snow:

this week has been beautifully full of blue skies and snow, so i decided to take a little trip to the library in the education university. it's kind of near to my home, and the street that goes there has beautiful houses like this one:

so the sun goes through and there are colours everywhere:

and more snow-related things, it was óttar's birthday and we made an igloo (see previous post). it isn't a very professional one, but it was so much fun. probably he forgot that when he used to build them when he was small his size was much much less than now:

and we went to dinner to audur's home. she's the grandaughter of the only icelandic nobel prize winner, halldór laxness (this is how small iceland is). she lives in this old wooden house downtown:

also we sang like a prayer in a karaoke party. óttar's so tall and i'm so small that to share the microphone i had to be on top of some little stair. there's no photographic evidence of that but here's part of the public:

and last but not least, the whole government resigned after last week protests, yay!

do you remember when i said that icelanders didn't know how to protest? forget it:

so this week in iceland isn't going to be remembered because obama became the president of the US, but rather because 3 months after collapsing they finally took over the streets and fighted for the government to go away. it's been the biggest protest since 1949:

and they threw eggs and paint and screamed a lot:

and they used all kinds of things found around the house to make noise. here we have múm's örvar with a pan and a spoon:

and mummi with a tin christmas box that he completely destroyed:

there were also people with drums. these girls should form a band together with the crazy looking guy in the militar suit:

there was even some guy with a complete set of drums:

and there was smoke too. white smoke:

and orange smoke:

and since óttar's coat is orange too he was so easily seen that he got like 7 or 8 interviews. here we have him posing with a oddly happy policeman:

there were many of them, probably all the policemen in iceland, and they got pretty tired because the prostests didn't end until almost 4 in the morning:

they got really angry (because basically they've never been in this kind of situation and they had no clue of how to deal with the crowd), so they decided to use the pepper spray on the people. it's horrible for the eyes and the only way of get the pain away is pooring some milk. the red haired guy is a photographer, so obviously the policemen didn't care much of who was getting it:

and this is the prime minister, who finally announced that there'll be elections in may (but still everyone wants them to go NOW). it's very weird because he also announced that he has cancer. everything became really really weird, and suddenly everyone feels sorry for him. this was the day before the people knew he was ill:

i've realized how difficult it must be to be a good photo-journalist. i took lots of pictures but they're all really really bad. this is the only one i'd save:

anyway, apart from the protesting, a small darth vader came to visit us:

and we went to buy some milkshake and we saw not one, not two, but three girls with the weirdest hair colour, probably they shared the same box:

but unfortunately miracles don't happen that often. for the non-sunny days it's nice getting mail. this week i got a german magazine called 'husk magazine' where i have a little interview:

anyway i've been going out a bit more. one day we went to pick up óttar's nephew to the school:

the last week of the year, who would have thought. we've spent it basically staying at home and playing around. óttar finished super mario 3:

in new year's eve we went to have dinner in óttar's brother's home (a.k.a our future home) again. i was very full because we had lunch in some brunch buffet in a hotel with óttar's friends. one of óttar's friends' back:

on the way to the hotel we got stuck in the car for half an hour because of this:

at night everything went crazy with fireworks. basically everyone blows a lot of these boxes:

we went to perlan, which is in a high place where you can see reykjavík and the surroundings all blowing. i'm uploading a little video to youtube but it's taking forever arg arg. so first picture of the year with fireworking background and extreme freezingness:

i'm back, hello 1.15 p.m. light. (or non-light):

so after one month travelling around i'm back in the land of ice. going to see björk was a very good welcoming:

i couldn't take better pictures because it was forbidden and it was a very small place so basically i took them without looking. she sang some icelandic carols and it was some kind of sing along thing:

i set up the christmas tree but since we're having all the mess at home i couldn't find the decorations so i put some lego trees on the tree:

i used to hate my hometown, but now that i live far far away i'm learning to appreciate it. this is my favourite house, and it's something i wouldn't have noticed before:

also, again, the sun. i know i'm a bit obsessed talking about the sun, but you wouldn't imagine how much i miss it. this was the look of it at 6:15 p.m., from the car:

that day i went with my uncle to sevilla to buy a nintendo wii. this is a triangled truck we found on the way:

that's another good thing about my town, it's really near to sevilla, which is a lovely lovely andalusian city with crazy blue skies and nice christmas decorations:

i've been going there this week to buy presents. also i went to visit some university times friends. one of them likes eating hearts:

one day we went to the town where my aunt lives. she my father's sister. she owns a wool shop:

the sun is an old friend:

so once again this week i took a plane:

and it was the first time ever that i travel by plane with my family (father sleeping / mother reading a magazine / aunt reading another magazine):

we landed in sevilla, andalucía, south of spain. sevillian fake snowflakes:

and from sevilla we drove to utrera, which is the place i was born, 24 km away from sevilla:

on the way there the whole landscape is crowded with olive trees:

and once in the town we have a lot of orange trees. and a lot of sun:

yes i was missing the sun so much. but it's been raining a lot, which is kind of weird in here. this is the (rainy) street where my grandma lives, i could have walked this like 94759683764363 times in my life:

but still i've been going out a little bit. this my friend carlos and me in the place i always go to. it's badly called 'latino', because it has nothing to do with latino-ness:

and this is my uncle jesús, i always always go out with him when i'm here. he's only 7 years older than me, because he's the youngest of the 10 brothers and sisters of my mother. he can light up matches with his beard:

the rest of the time i've been sneezing in my bedroom:

and putting everything in order, like always. i like it here, but i miss that little person in the mirror:

but it doesn't matter because next sunday i'm flying back to iceland (:
